The number of reported MRI safety incidents has increased significantly over the last decade. The ACR and The Joint Commission require that MRI facilities be staffed with knowledgeable individuals who are regularly trained in best practices, aimed at preventing safety-related incidents and injuries. This CME-CE accredited webinar delivers current information supported by the 2020 ACR Manual on MR Safety; providing the participant with an opportunity to learn through live online presentations, interactive Q & A sessions and poll questions that encourage audience participation. All lecture materials will be provided to the attendees.

Learning Objectives
  • Implement screening and preparation processes for both patients and non-patients.
  • Recognize the violent effects of the static field forces on metallic items and implement protocols to avoid accidents.
  • Recognize the effects of the time-varying gradient magnetic fields on metallic items and the patients; and implement protocols to avoid accidents.
  • Implement specific steps to avoid thermal injuries in patients.
  • Understand and share the labeling terminology used by the FDA regarding implants and devices with colleagues.
  • Create a list of common ‘conditions of use’ for implants and devices with MR safety labeling.
  • Assess the MR safety risks to patients with metallic implants and/or foreign bodies.
